This is the wintry scene looking out one of the sun room windows.
The glass is really old, and original. With waves and bubbles.
Gave the picture a watery effect.
We stayed super busy this past weekend.
Fluffing our nest, and more renovation work.
We also did a few seasonal project.
One of my projects was to make this Cinnamon-Brown sugar scrub.
I was inspired and found the 'how to's' on this blog--homeiswhereoneheartis.blogspot.com
To make the Cinnamon-Brown sugar scrub you will need:
1 C. brown sugar
1/2 C. white sugar
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 C. canola oil ( you may also use vegetable oil, or sunflower...NOT OLIVE OIL )
Combine ingredients until blended well and store in a jar.
I also made the most delicious Chocolate-Pumpkin bread.
Moist and delicious, with a hint of spice.
The recipe that I adapted was found on the 'Taste of Home ' website.
For this recipe you will need:
1 Devils food cake mix
1 Spice cake mix
1 29oz. can of pureed pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie filling)
In two separate bowls, mix 1/2 of the pumpkin with each cake mix.
So that you have 1 bowl of pumpkin -spice cake mix, and 1 bowl of Devils food cake mix.
Blend each cake mix with the pumpkin until well combined.
The mixes will each be thick, sort of like thick muffin batter.
Prepare two loaf pans with non-stick spray.
Spoon batter into loaf pans. Alternating between the chocolate and the pumpkin.
Swirl a knife, or spoon handle through the batter to give it a marbled appearance.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 50 minutes, or until bread tests done.
Cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, or serve with whipped cream.
Delicious!
This sweet bread also freezes well. Perfect for gift giving.
The kitchen chalk board got finished and hung up.
I love it!
Made it out of an old cupboard door that we picked up at ReStore for a 100 pennies.
We love it so much that we've decided to make a couple more.
One for the sun room too.
New Fall wreath.
Hanging on the front door.
Welcoming all..... and welcoming the Thanksgiving Fall.
Attitude of gratitude:
~I'm grateful that the latest 'cancer watch' looks as if there is no need to worry.
Better to be vigilant, and stay on top of it.
~I'm grateful for just enough apples to make one more batch of Apple Butter.
~I'm grateful for a positive outlook. Trying to stay positive and be happy makes all the difference.
**** I just want to clarify something... our 'cancer watch' is not for myself, rather for our daughter.
She had a kidney transplant, and one of the side effects of her anti-rejection medications is a high increased likely hood of cancers. She had already battled skin cancer, and we are watching another spot on her gums. Thanks very much for your concerns and prayers. You all are so kind and thoughtful.

What a beautiful post, Kerin. Your home is so lovely, warm and inviting. Those recipes look great too. Wishing you a wonderful, peaceful evening at home.

Hello Kerin, What a lovely blog. I have enjoyed reading it and intend to catch up on more when I have my next cuppa break.
ReplyDeleteCheers Maa
brrrr...the snow makes me shiver! We had an earthquake over the weekend and now the threat of severe weather with tornadoes!!
ReplyDeleteDidn't know you had cancer...glad that things are looking better for you.
God is good isn't He?
I love this post Kerin. You have posted great recipes (and made me hungry ;-)) and I love the chalkboard. So creative! And the snow... beautiful through your beautiful window! I saw on your attitude of gratitude something about cancer. Did I miss something in my abscence? I sure hope not but will send a special prayer up for you anyhow. Hope you have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteyour blog was very inviting and filled with yummy treat I can't wait to try out. love the chalk board I have one I'm working on too. wow love the snow outside lol its the first I've seen this year. I love when its snowy and cold out and warm and cozy inside.
ReplyDeleteKerin
ReplyDeleteYou have been so...busy! You put me to shame.
I like the chalkboard idea. I have a smaller cabinet door I might try this with.
Love that apple wreath too!
What a wonderful post and so pretty with your snow and wavy glass which I love. Nothing like it. I am so glad your daughter is well. That is all that matters.
ReplyDeleteBoy oh boy, don't you ever just sit around and waste a day? I feel like a lazy bum compared to you:) Love everything you do. You are a good example for me. The snow looks so pretty even though it's a little early this year. We got alot of snow in our mountains and it rained on us. Cold though. Brrrr.....
ReplyDeleteHi Kerin, I love your beautiful fall wreath! And the chalk board is a clever idea. The recipes sound yummy. What a great post! I will pray that your daughter stays cancer-free.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!
I do so love looking out the wavy-glass windows!! Especially if I had all those goodies to enjoy while looking out!! I will pray for your daughter. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteKerin, I love this post. It is filled with opportunity from beginning to end. For one thing, I am praying for your daughter immediately and will continue praying as long as God leads.
ReplyDeleteI am also tempted to try that chocolate pumpkin bread. Looks delicious. And the chalkboard made with an old cupboard board just inspired me to try something similar I've been spinning in my head.
Thank you for sharing the fun lyrics/seasonal quote. Are you sure you don't want me to enter you in the giveaway? Remember, Starbucks serves a lot more than coffee and it carries other products too, like mugs, etc. Let me know.
Love and blessings to you, my dear. Oh, yes, I am glad you liked the sugar scrub.
Well, just stopped by again to thank you because I've turned every old cabinet door in my garage over to make that chalkboard display but none were right--too tall or too narrow or too short. So guess what I'll be doing this weekend? Yep, trying to find something similar and for not one cent over 100 pennies. ;) Thanks pal.
ReplyDeleteI actually love such challenges.
Blessings.
Good Morning Kerin,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a good weekend in your warm and cozy little house! I loved the pictures of your two recipes and just might make one, or both. The scrub looks like a great gift for those not wanting to add to their waistline and the pumpkin bread looks like I would LOVE it.
Would you like to share these at my party this week? You know you are always welcome!
I am so glad to know that your daughters cancer watch is all good. I had no idea about the kidney transplant connection. I believe you had emailed me after reading about my SIL's kidney transplant. I love your positive attitude!
