Remember the Uncle Arthur children's books?
We read a lot of stories out of the 'Uncle Arthur' story books to our kids, when they were little.Well, years have passed and I have no idea where our 'Uncle Arthur' books disappeared to.
Much to my delight, I found an Uncle Arthur book at the thrift store.
Published in 1947.
I love the illustrations in this book.
I love that these books were written to teach a lesson, morals and values.
In the back of the book, there are also Bible stories.
Some of the lesson stories in this book, include:
Following Instruction
Golden Rule
Price of Impatience
Reward of Faith
The high cost of cheating
How to resist temptation
Thrift
Tidiness
etc... etc.. etc.
'The children's Hour"
Between the dark and the daylight,
When the night is beginning to lower,
Comes a pause in the day's occupations,
That is known as the Children's Hour.
Henry W. Longfellow
I've been doing a lot of prep work , cleaning and caulking.
Preparing to get the sun room painted.
My goal for the sun room is to make it an uplifting and inspiring place to be.
The colors are perfect.
Each evening, you can look over our little farm, and see the sun setting behind the mountains.
It is inspiring and soothes the soul.
The feel that I really want to have in the sun room, is one that is inspired by the movie 'Under the Tuscan Sun'
A little bit old world farmhouse, and a dose of cottage.
Warm, inviting, inspiring and uplifting.
The sun room is a multi purpose room.
When you have a small house, many times a room has to do double duty, or more.
This is the room where the laundry is done, the computer and printer are , the pantry cupboard and craft supplies.
In short... a place where many hours are spent by all members of the family.
This room has the colors in that I chose.
See how beautifully they work together?
Good inspiration for me !
So, away I go.... working , working, working to pull it all together.
That place that uplifts and inspires.
And, every now and again, I'll take a break and read my 'Uncle Arthur' book and find inspiration for being a better me.
I'll bookmark all my favorite stories to read to those future grand kids of mine..... one day .... a long, long, long time from now.
Attitude of gratitude:~I'm grateful that the new door is on the sun room. I'm grateful that I've just about got the windows finished and will be ready to paint.
~I'm grateful for our new wood burning stove.
It's the bomb! It burns so efficiently, and kept the house at a toasty 75 degrees, and using very, very little wood!
~I'm grateful for friendly neighbors that stop by for an afternoon chat. How wonderful to see their smiles.

What a great book find! The illustrations are beautiful. Hope the painting in the sunroom goes smoothly. It will be very welcoming and a great place to enjoy so many activities. Have a nice weekend Kerin.
ReplyDeleteI've read a lot of books, but I don't remember those. I sure wish I could ask my mom if she does. I also love those colors you showed, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Under the Tuscan Sun.
ReplyDeleteEvery night we read an Uncle Authur story to our children before bedtime. I've kept the books in hopes that my own children would like them some day to read to their little ones.
ReplyDeleteI think your sun room is going to be warm and inviting with the color choices you've made. I
can't wait to see it done!
sigh... Coming here reminds and inspires me to get to work a little faster and make this house a home! I have lived in survival mode for too long. I'm not doing that any more. I'm going to make my home beautiful... :) Thanks for the inspiration! :D I'm really happy for you that you are so good at creating surroundings that you love!
ReplyDeletePS. I haven't seen the Arthur books, but know I would absolutely adore them! I'm REALLY into stories that build character, and old stuff, so that is a picture perfect winner! :)
TTFN!
Corine :D

Wow what can I say be what a beautiful blog and I just felt like I popped in for a cup of coffee with a new friend. We loved Uncle Aurther books too. I was just thinking the other day one of the stoires about this box with all of the keys that has never been opened.

I look forward to getting aquained with you and I love your sunflower too.
It is always nice to meet new friends.
I loved the Uncle Arthur books when I was a kid! My beloved Grandma had a set at her house and I read them all the time..and she would sometimes read them to us. Such sweet stories and good moral lessons too. What a good thrift find. I will have to be on the lookout!
ReplyDeleteFinished cutting, freezing, canning and making jerky out of that whole deer. Awesome!! Thanks so much for thinking of me when Mr. Buck became available..what a blessing you are!
Have a fun weekend. I may be stopping at the Red Barn tomorrow on our trip up north for our monthly Costco run.
What a wonderful book! And how great you found a copy. Those colors you've chosen are beautiful. Love that movie - one of my favorites. Can't wait to see pics of the room's progress.
ReplyDeleteHere's to reviving wonderful books like this. The morals taught could be useful to not only children but to some of the adults I know...
ReplyDeleteLove the colors and can't wait to see it all finished.
Blessings, K
Hi Kerin! I think those colors are so pretty. I enjoyed that movie and it made me long to visit another country. I will be looking forward to seeing your sunroom all painted. Those Uncle Arthur books are lovely. I will keep my eye our for them while junking. They just don't make books like that any more for the kids to read. I have had trouble trying to find books for my 12 year old to read that are appropriate enough. It seems they are all geered towards romance or things that are way too scary. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember those books..but I love what you are doing as you continue to fix everything up there. Love the colors and I loved that movie too. :D
