Winter colors.
Old insulators sitting on the window ledge in the sun room, reflecting sunlight.
A 'crystal' snowflake hangs in the window.
Little touches all around The Cottage.
Decorations for Christmas and the winter season.
The tree is up, lights twinkling.
Old ornaments dusted off and hung on the branches of our Noble Fir tree.
A live tree. The first one that we've had in many years.
The fragrance is wonderful, filling the house with that Christmas smell.
Lots of wood chopping going on.
We began the weekend with little snow on the ground.
A snow storm later, the snow is beginning to accumulate .
It is snowing now.
Softly coming down, like drifting powdered sugar....covering the branches and rooftops.
We're keeping the wood stove burning and staying toasty and warm.
How wonderful this wood stove has been.
Little did I know eight months ago just how warm and efficient this wood stove would be and how much we would come to love it.
I love to watch the fire crackling away as the house gets toasty warm.
Spencer cleared some snow off of the walk way.
He grabbed the propane burner out of the barn, and away he went.
Not only did he melt the snow off of the sidewalk.. he practically got the sidewalk dry.
Next year we will be replacing this sidewalk, and there will be even more cement to clear snow from.
Our electric pressure cooker.
An early Christmas gift to ourselves.
Gee.... why didn't I get one of these years ago?
How fast can you make dinner?
In the blink of an eye with this baby.
Teriyaki chicken.
Easiest thing ever.
Chicken.. pineapple tidbits...a bit of Yoshida sauce.
Twenty minutes later... ta-da... dinner.
Teriyaki chicken over rice.
Now I'll have lots of extra time.... I just might go build a snowman.
Not to be left out.
Rowdy tore into a box.
He loves boxes.
Just don't put a box down that you don't want recycled into mulch.
I worked on the stairs this weekend too.
I've been trying to keep working on house renovation projects.
So, now that I'm stuck inside because of winter, it has given me an opportunity to get some of those inside projects caught up.
One more thing we can cross off the list.....once I finish, that is.
There are quite a few more stairs to go before I can consider this job finished.
I'm deciding if I want to paint numbers, or a quote, or stencil on the stairs.
Hmmm.
The sun sets on another week at The Cottage.
Winter is here.
Christmas is on it's way.
Looking forward to the coming week, full of promise and a few projects too.
Attitude of gratitude:
~I'm grateful to have been able to do some canning this past Fall. We are really enjoying those jars of garden goodness.
~I'm grateful for being able to embrace the simple things in life, and working on simplifying everything in my life. Making time for what matters.
~I'm grateful for cheesy-tatoes.
Comfort food for a cold winters night.

A lovely post...love the insulators in the window...will love to see your finished project..smart son! And I love wood burning stoves too, nothing keeps a home as warm as they do! :D
ReplyDeleteOk...your pictures are gorgeous! I wanna come and live at your house :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you decide to do with the stairs. You have such great ideas.
Seeing your woodstove makes me miss ours, kind of! We got rid of ours after 25 years because my husband got tired of all the work. But it was nice to snuggle up to on a cold night. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought about the old insulators. I love the aqua/blue/turquoise colors for Christmas. And I didn't know they made electric pressure cookers. I need one of them. You've been very informative. Be careful this winter.
ReplyDeleteI love your home, so pretty and warm. Your Christmas tree is beautiful. That fireplace looks awesome! I wish I had one. Love the stairs, can't wait to see them when they are all done. Beautiful Kerin!
ReplyDeleteLove those beautiful old glass insulators and I'm going to have to give that recipe a try! blessings ~ Tanna
ReplyDeleteKerin, I love our house, but I love yours more! It looks so peaceful and homey, and I want a fireplace so badly!
ReplyDeleteKerin
ReplyDeleteI never thought of using my insulator as you have, but I like it!
I still don't think it's fair you are getting snow and I'm not. Surely soon it will come.
Your tree looks great. Hopefully next week I'll get ours cut too.
Oh yes, a wood stove can spoil a person pretty darn fast! You'll never want to go back to any other system now.

Good Morning Kerin, Such a heartwarming post. I remember mama having candleholders made from colorful insulators. Yours are so pretty in the window. No snow for us yet, so I really enjoyed yours! Your dinner sounds yummy and very satisfying on a cold evening. Always such a joy to visit your blog.
ReplyDeletedear kerin,

We had a wood stove in our other house and it was really great in Winter to warm everything up. Having a touch of osteoarthritis, there is nothing like the heat from a wood fire to ease the old bones.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT ALL!!! You've been a busy bee. ;)
ReplyDeleteYour tree is beautiful and I could almost smell it. Mine is up too but the pine smell isn't spreading so much yet, typically as it gets a little older, but I cheat, I pinch it and get a little sample.
I grew up with pressure cookers. My mom used it a lot.
Okay, so now I want to know about your stairs. Are you sanding them yourself? Tell me how (electric sander, stripping, info please). I've been wanting to do ours but the sanding gives me terrible allergies. They're not painted but they are old and need refinishing. I love the stenciled ones, lots of ideas on blogs. Can't wait to see your finished labor of love.
Enjoy your Monday.
I'm like Valerie, I want to come and live at your house, or at least visit. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your stairs. Oh, the possibilities!
YOur place just looks so cozy and sweet! LOVE the stairs!! I plan to keep on doing some projects around here over the winter too. I am so busy with Christmas projects right now..and daycare..that I guess my own home projects will start up in earnest in January..something fun to look forward to. Wasn't this latest storm a pretty one???
ReplyDeleteHave a cozy day!!
Such a beautiful tree and your little woodstove fire looks SO cozy! I love the smell of the wood burning in our fireplace.
ReplyDeleteYour stairs are going to look so nice when they are done. I would think that quote would be something different and a wonderful reminder as you go up the stairs.
Stay warm!!
lovely decorations kerin, and such a warm and inviting home. I am just now working on getting my decorations up I am not in a hurry just taking my time and enjoying the season. I myself have been mulling the idea of painting my stairs too. I have been trying to decide between a quote and inspirational words. Nancy
ReplyDeleteYour tree looks beautiful, I love the old insulators in the window, the turquoise color is great! Looks like your dog likes to "help" with the cardboard recycling like my two labs do. What a lot of lovely winter fun going on at your cottage!
ReplyDeleteKerin! I love your pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe stairs will be beautiful when they are done. Stenciling would look so great.
I love our woodburning stove too. There isn't a warmer heat than a good wood fire!
your pup made me LOL! and such a clever boy to clear the sidewalk that way!
ReplyDeletelove the insulators in the first shot, but something about the red hatchet on that snowy log made it my favorite!
I can't say I've ever seen anyone clear a walk like that. Great idea!!!
ReplyDeleteYour tree is just fabulous, I finished deckin' the hall at the Ponderosa yesterday. Woohoo!!! 'Knee deep in candy makin' today.
I love the last picture sweetie, it's just breathtakin'!!!
God bless and have a magnificent day!!! :o)
How peaceful yet festive. I loved our wood stove, two houses ago. Mark kept a kettle of water spiced with cloves on top.
ReplyDeleteWish you could come for coffee!
Internet Explorer won't let me open your page so I visit through Google Chrome. Takes an extra step or two but worth it.
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by again to see if you had anything new and/or if you replied to my pesky questions about your stairs.
You can email me at my blog's email: oneheartathome@yahoo.com
Anywho, hope you are having tons of holiday fun. ;)
Cool stair project! I like the stenciling idea... can't wait to see the finished product! :D
